While most people spend Saturday nights on the town, Bruce Rossmeyer’s Daytona Harley-Davidson hopes that customers will instead stay inside — at least for this upcoming weekend.
The Florida dealership will host a live online video auction from noon on Saturday to noon, Nov. 8, in a 24-hour blitz of more than 100 used motorcycles. The auction is open to bidders around the world, and starting Friday, Nov. 6 at noon, they can go to the official auction website to view the selection of more than 100 used motorcycles that are up for auction. The inventory will include, but will not be limited to, Sportster, Dyna, Softail, V-Rod, Touring, Screamin Eagle and other custom bikes.
In an announcement about the soon-to-be monthly online auction the dealership says that “this innovative, Internet-based auction is truly changing the way the world buys motorcycles forever.”
Each motorcycle will be listed with up to 10 photos and an interactive video in which a Bruce Rossmeyer’s Harley-Davidson sales person will present a virtual sales pitch — highlighting the bike’s features while doing a 360 degree walk around the bike.
Throughout the 24-hour period viewers can bid on the various bikes, starting with a $500 minimum bid, and at the end of the auction the highest bidder will win the bike. The dealership also offers national and international shipping on all bikes and financing options, and accepts most major forms of payment such as credit cards and checks.
Rossmeyer, one of the biggest Harley-Davidson dealers in the world with 13 stores, was killed in July while riding with a group to the Sturgis Rally in South Dakota.
Shortly after his death, Maurice Slaughter, the owner of Bayside Harley-Davidson in Portsmouth, Va., and three other stores, talked to Dealernews about Rossmeyer. “To me his greatest skill was his vision,” Slaughter said. “He was able to take the motorcycle dealership to a new level. No one thought as large as he did.”
